How It Works

It's simple. Summer Books accepts new or used children's books (Grades K-3 reading level) from generous donors like you. If you'd like to help but don't have books to give, we also accept financial contributions. The money you give is used to purchase new, high-interest books from Scholastic.com. Summer Books stores all of the books until June. Then, during the last week of school, the books are displayed at participating elementary schools.

Students in grades K-2, having been identified as at-risk readers by school personnel, are invited to choose books to take home. The students do the choosing.  Our goal is that each student will get to choose at least 10 books. We hope students read the books over the summer, but if they don't get to it, that's okay! The books are theirs to keep forever. No book reports, no questions to answer, nothing but free books for kids.
